The Birmingham-Jefferson History Museum -- to open in April as The Birmingham History Center -- will be operating roughly on a $350,000 annual budget in 2010 for office operations, rent, artifact collection and conservation, exhibit design and salaries for a full-time director and two part-time staff members. The museum is indebted to Thomas E. Jernigan, Jr., who in memory of his father has pledged support of $75,000 yearly for 10 years to launch the museum. He and more than 250 individual supporters have underwritten the museum's operations since 2004 through gifts of $100, $250, $1,000 and $5,000 in our Founder sponsorship program.

The museum is a 501(c)(3) organization and Alabama nonprofit corporation. Contributions are tax deductible.

Historic Birmingham & Jefferson County, an Illustrated History

In 2007, the museum received $58,858 in donations, including more than $12,000 in advertising royalties from the book, Historic Birmingham & Jefferson County, an Illustrated History, by local historian and Alabama Labor Commissioner Jim Bennett. Sales of the paperback version of this book are still available through this office at $25 per single copy and will help fund artifact and exhibit installation. Bennett's book is a project of the Birmingham-Jeffersion Historical Society.  For more information, or to purchase a copy, call the office at 205-202-4146 or e-mail us at  bjhm@bham.rr.com.
